US passport photo app

Make a US 2×2 passport photo on your phone

IDFrame helps you crop and position a passport photo to the United States size, clean the background on-device, and export either one photo or a print-ready sheet.

The essential US measurements

The printed photo must be exactly 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). The head must measure between 1 and 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.

Before you take the photo

The US Department of State says a passport photo must be in color, taken within the last six months, and show your current appearance. Face the camera directly with a neutral expression and both eyes open. Use a plain white or off-white background and even lighting without distracting shadows.

These rules can change. Before submitting, compare your result with the current US Department of State passport photo guidance.

How to make the 2×2 photo in IDFrame

  1. Choose United States. The preset selects the square 2×2-inch format and its head-position range.
  2. Add a well-lit photo. Import one from your library or take a new photo. Start with the camera at eye level and leave space around the head and shoulders.
  3. Check the framing. IDFrame detects the face and positions it in the guide. You can drag and pinch to make a careful adjustment.
  4. Review the background. Background removal runs on your device. Adjust the detection threshold and brightness if an edge needs correction.
  5. Export. Save the individual JPEG or generate a 4×6, 5×7, A4, or Letter print sheet.

IDFrame helps with size, framing, and export; it does not issue passports or guarantee acceptance. The passport authority makes the final decision, so review the official examples for expression, clothing, lighting, image quality, and other requirements.

Why use a dedicated passport photo app?

A normal crop tool can make a square image, but it does not show whether the head occupies the required part of the frame or produce a sheet at a known print size. IDFrame combines country presets, a visible head-ratio check, and print-sheet export in one workflow. Photos are processed on-device and are not uploaded to an IDFrame server.

Should you print it or upload it?

Follow the instructions for the application route you are using. If you need a printed photo, export a sheet and print it at its actual 4×6, 5×7, A4, or Letter size without automatic cropping. For a digital application, export the individual image and confirm the file requirements on the official application page.
