Passport photo printing

How to print passport photos on 4×6 paper

The key is preserving physical size. Generate a 4×6 sheet with the passport photos already laid out, print the full image without cropping, and measure one photo before cutting.

For US passport photos

Each finished photo must measure exactly 2×2 inches (51×51 mm). The US Department of State accepts matte or glossy photo-quality paper, but all other photo requirements still apply.

1. Create the passport photo

In IDFrame, choose the country or document preset, import or take a photo, and position the face in the visible guide. Review the background edge carefully. For a US passport, also compare the result with the current Department of State photo examples and requirements.

2. Export a 4×6 print sheet

On the export step, choose the 4×6 sheet. IDFrame lays out multiple copies at the intended passport-photo dimensions. If your printer or photo service uses another paper size, the app can also generate 5×7, A4, and Letter sheets.

3. Turn off automatic cropping

At the printer or photo-service checkout, select the same paper size as the exported sheet. Disable settings named Fill, Fit to frame, Zoom, Borderless expansion, or Auto crop when they change the image scale. The complete sheet should remain visible in the preview.

If the service warns that the file contains passport photos, check its local policy. You can also use a home photo printer or another professional print service that preserves the requested image size.

4. Measure before cutting

Use a ruler to verify one photo on the printed sheet. For a US passport, the edges should be 2 inches by 2 inches. If the measurement is wrong, do not compensate by trimming inside the photo; reprint with scaling disabled.

5. Cut cleanly along the boundaries

Use a paper trimmer or a ruler and craft knife on a protected surface. Avoid rounded corners, white borders inside the required dimensions, or cuts that reduce the final size.

Home printing is not accepted everywhere. Canada, for example, requires printed passport photos to be taken in person by a commercial photographer or studio and professionally printed. Follow the issuing authority for your country and application method.
